Seasiders fall to Silverswords

HONOLULU – BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball fell in four sets (25-23, 17-25, 25-19, 25-8) to Chaminade at the McCabe Gymnasium Wednesday night.

Leilani Adolpho finished with a double-double of 11 kills and 10 digs for the Seasiders (2-9, 0-2 PacWest). Lacy Lange and Brittany Waite each contributed three total blocks. Daisia LaBrie led Chaminade (7-4, 1-1 PacWest) with 10 kills.

The Silverswords recorded a .155 hitting percentage, holding BYU-Hawaii to .068. Chaminade ended with eight service aces, while the Seasiders had five. Both teams recorded eight total blocks.

Service aces by Waite and Sinamoni Tonga helped the Seasiders get out to an early 8-4 advantage at the beginning of the first set. BYU-Hawaii errors aided the Silverswords during a 5-1 run to tie the set 11-11. Two kills by Sinamoni Tonga and a block by Sofia Tonga allowed the Seasiders to regain a 16-13 lead, but the teams continued to trade points. Chaminade went on a 6-1 run featuring a block and kill by Cassie Rushlow to finish with a 25-23 win.

Seesaw scoring started the second set until Lange sparked a 6-1 run that included a kill by Waite to push BYU-Hawaii up 15-10. A 6-2 streak led by three kills from Adolpho extended the Seasider lead to 21-14. A block by Waite and Lange ended the set 25-17 to tie the match at one set each.

A 5-1 run highlighted by a kill and block by Lange and a solo block by Waite gave BYU-Hawaii an 11-6 edge in the third set. The Silverswords answered back with a 6-point streak that included two kills from LaBrie and an ace from Waihilo Chartrand to take a 12-11 lead. Chaminade extended their lead to 20-13 on a 7-0 run with two blocks by Ku'ulei Lynch and two aces by Skyler Curry. A block by LaBrie and Rushlow ended the set 25-19 for the Silverswords.

Two aces by Isabella Tessitore helped Chaminade take an early 8-2 lead in the fourth set. The Silverswords went on a 7-2 run to gain a double-digit advantage at 16-6. Emma Tecklenburg contributed a block and kill to a 5-0 streak, pushing Chaminade up 21-7. The final point scored by the Seasiders was a kill by Waite before an attack error gave the Silverswords the 25-8 victory.
