Seasiders fly by Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 2 BYU-Hawaii grabbed its second ranked victory of the week with an 8-1 win Thursday over No. 31 Concordia University Irvine at the Costa Mesa Tennis Courts.

Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Xin (Summer) Wen paired for a commanding 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles, while Min (Karen) Liu and Leah Heimuli added an 8-1 win of their own for the Seasiders (7-0) on court two. The Eagles' (5-4) Anastasiia Kuprina and Ashley Glick grabbed the lone point of the day for Concordia holding off Michelle Li Sha Khoo and McKenna Lloyd for the 8-6 victory.

Wen and Jeong-Min Jeon started the Seasiders off in singles with 6-0, 6-0 wins to move the team score to 4-1. No. 2 Zhang sealed the team victory at court one with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Kuprina.

No. 4 Liu rebounded from an 6-0 loss in the first set to take the next two 6-0 and 6-2 to defeat Luma Schwab. Heimuli also fell in the first set before rebounding for the 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory on court four. Khoo added the final touch for the Seasiders with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win over Ghada Alajeely.

BYU-Hawaii will take on Hope International University Friday at noon PST at La Habra Tennis Center.
