HONOLULU – BYU-Hawaii women's tennis player Nannan (Dallas) Zhang qualified for last week's Hawaiian Open Professional Women's Tournament, falling 6-2, 6-3 to eventual champion Cici Bellis in the round of 32.
Zhang gave Bellis her second toughest match of the tournament. Zhang was the only player to take a lead over Bellis, 3-2 in the second set.
The only player to win more games over Bellis was Zhang Shuai, the top player from China and No. 23 in the world, in the championship match. Bellis defeated Shuai 6-4, 6-2.
Zhang is entering her senior season as the No. 2-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II. Zhang has ended the last two seasons as the top-ranked singles player by the ITA.
