IRVINE, Calif. – Three singles, two doubles and two individual honors were given to BYU-Hawaii as the All-PacWest Women's Tennis Awards were announced by the league office on Friday.
A combination of national rankings and coach voting determines the PacWest tennis awards and teams. PacWest coaches nominate and select coach and individual player awards. The ITA West Region rankings released prior to the NCAA Championship determine the All-PacWest teams.
After leading the Seasiders to a 30-1 season, their 16th NCAA Division II year with one loss or less, and their ninth-consecutive PacWest Championship title, head coach Dave Porter was named PacWest Coach of the Year for the eighth-consecutive time.
Nannan (Dallas) Zhang was named PacWest Player of the Year for the second consecutive year. She finished this season with a 20-3 doubles record and 16-2 in singles, winning her final eight-consecutive singles matches. Zhang also joined former Seasiders I-Hsuan (Annie) Hwang and Hewenfei (Elwen) Li as the only repeat winners of the top conference award. Zhang, the nationally ranked No. 1 doubles and singles player, was selected as first-team All-PacWest for doubles and singles.
Min (Karen) Liu and Marietta Tuionetoa joined Zhang on the first-team for singles. Partners Zhang and Liu were selected first-team All-PacWest doubles, while Tuionetoa and Jin Jin (Leah) Han were second-team selections.
Hawai'i Pacific's Nicole Hoynaski was awarded PacWest Newcomer of the Year and her teammate Kristyna Hancarova earned the PacWest Freshman of the Year title. Hoynaski recorded a 16-7 season and Hancarova finished 12-6 in her first year as a Shark. The pair is nationally ranked No. 5 in doubles with a 15-3 record.
