LAIE, Hawaii – No. 4 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis suffered its first loss 4-2 to Division I opponent Old Dominion on Wednesday.
Marietta Tuionetoa and Jin Jin (Leah) Han gave BYU-Hawaii (15-1) its lone victory in the doubles stage of the match with an 8-1 win over Marijana Novakovic and Adriana Rajkovic of Old Dominion. The No. 3 nationally ranked pairing of Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Min (Karen) Liu fell to their monarch competitors 8-2, while Seasiders Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu and Jade Griffin fell in a close 8-6 decision.
No. 6 Liu defeated Nikol Hristova of Old Dominion 6-3, 6-4 on the second singles court. Jeong-Min Jeon recorded the only other victory for the Seasiders with a 6-2, 7-5 defeat of the Monarchs' Rajkovic. No. 2 Zhang fell 6-4, 6-4 to Borislava Botusharova, ranked No. 93 in Division I.
Old Dominion's Ingrid Vojcinakova defeated No. 10 Tuionetoa 6-2, 6-2. BYU-Hawaii's Griffin put up a strong fight against Novakovic, but eventually fell 7-6(3), 6-4.
BYU-Hawaii will next face Cleveland State on Thursday at 2 p.m. HST.
