No. 2 Seasiders beat No. 17 UC San Diego 8-1

HILO, Hawaii (Feb. 15, 2014) - The No. 2 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team beat No. 17 UC San Diego for its first win over a ranked opponent this season.

The Seasiders swept the all the singles matchups and suffered its only blemish in third doubles.

Marietta Tuionetoa and Nannan Zhang won No. 1 doubles 8-3 and Min (Karen) Liu and Kanela Adamson edged out an 8-6 win in the No. 2 spot.

Sasha Ulbrichtova and Jade Griffin fell 8-5 in another close one in third doubles.

In singles, Zhang beat out 32nd-ranked Kyra Scott 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in a thriller in the first position.

No 2 and 3 singles saw Liu win 6-2, 6-3 and No. 26 Tuionetoa cruise 6-1, 6-0.

No. 17 Marika Kobayashi defeated her opponent at No. 4 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 and while Ulbrichtova and Adamson picked up wins in the No. 5 and 6 matches 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2, respectively.

The Seasiders travel to California next week with matches beginning Feb. 22 in Los Angeles.
