Seasiders unable to hold off Lancers

LAIE, Hawaii – BYU-Hawaii women's soccer dropped a 2-1 game in overtime to California Baptist Thursday at the BYU-Hawaii soccer field.

Sydney Eddy led all players with four shots and three on goal, scoring for the Seasiders (4-6-2, 3-4-1 PacWest).

Three Lancers (4-4-3, 3-1-2 PacWest) had two shots each and their goals came from Justene Kesterson and Desarae Felix.

Both teams finished with 11 total shots, but BYU-Hawaii put seven on goal to Cal Baptist's five.

Meghan Walker had a chance to win it for the Seasiders in the 93rd minutes after she found herself alone in the box with the keeper, but Escobedo did her job and kept the net clean. Miller answered back with a Lancer shot that was saved in the 98th minute. Seconds later, Felix took the ball from a defender and beat the keeper one-on-one to give her team the 2-1 win.

The first shot on goal came from Mackenzie Bean in the 27th minute, but Cal Baptist's keeper Sara Escobedo (4-4-3) kept the net clean. Rachel Orchard had a shot nine minutes that Escobedo was also able jump and grab it before it went under the bar.

The only shot by the Lancers in the first half was a high ball from Michaela Miller in the 39th minute.

Seasider keeper Jaylie Jensen (2-4-1) saved consecutive shots by Chaylin Couzens and Haley Wheelon five minutes into the second half. Couzens and Miranda Hald followed up with additional shots that were both blocked.

After a missed header by Reynolds Behrens, Bean sent it to Eddy who took a touch past the keeper and tapped the ball into the net to take a 1-0 BYU-Hawaii lead at the 60th minute.

Kyler Clark attempted to retaliate with a header in the 65th minute that went wide left. A minute later, Wheelon's ball made it to Kesterson who chipped it over the keeper far post to tie the game 1-1.

Eddy responded with two more shots on goal and Brena Jarvis Love had one, but they weren't able to get past the keeper and the game went into overtime.
