Kelsey East (3-3-1) recorded her third shutout for BYU-Hawaii (3-6-2, 2-3-1 PacWest) with three saves. McCarthy led the Seasider attack with two shots and one goal. Kate Orchard added the other goal and an assist for the Seasiders. BYU-Hawaii finished with eight shots while Hilo (3-4-3, 2-4 PacWest) totaled five.
Jessica Smith found Orchard on a cross into the middle of the box in the 21st minute and Orchard put it home to give BYU-Hawaii the 1-0 lead they would need to win the game.
Orchard returned the favor in the 42nd minute finding McCarthy on a similar cross into the box. McCarthy was able to get her foot on it to close the half with a 2-0 lead.
The game was a defensive battle in the second half with Smith recording the Seasiders' only shot on goal in the second half, but Kailah Buchanan made the save for the Vulcans. BYU-Hawaii's back line also applied pressure allowing only one shot by Hilo's Cayla Velander in the 87th minute, but East made the save.
