LAIE, Hawaii—The 41st-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii men's tennis team lost today against 13th-ranked Grand Canyon 5-3 in the opening round of the Pacific West Conference Tournament.
The Seasiders picked up wins at number one and three doubles and at the number six singles slot but fell to 11-7 for the season.
Yevhen Zakharov and Martin Chojnacki picked up an 8-3 win at number one doubles while Andy Xing and Isaac Hadley won by a 9-8 score at number three doubles to give the Seasiders a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
However, in singles play, Dai Peng earned the only win for the Seasiders with a 6-4, 7-6 victory at number six singles. The Seasiders lost in three sets at number two singles and played close matches at the third and fifth spots but couldn't pick up the wins.
The Seasiders will be back in action on Saturday at the Pacific West Conference Tournament in Waipio and will face an opponent to be determined in a consolation match.
