Seasiders begin tough homestand

LAIE, Hawaii – BYU-Hawaii men's soccer is set to host Dixie State Saturday, Concordia University Irvine Monday and California Baptist Thursday with all games starting at noon HST.


  • The Seasiders are currently ranked second in the PacWest with a 4-2-2, 3-1-1 record.
  • Jake McRae is leading BYU-Hawaii in goals with eight, followed by Braden Bailey's six.
  • BYU-Hawaii's last game was a 4-4 tie with Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday. McRae scored two goals, while the others came from Jaden Bybee and Joshua Craddock. Einar Johnson made a career-high eight saves.
  • The Seasiders faced each of these teams once last season, falling only to Dixie.

Dixie State

  • As the only team with a better record than BYU-Hawaii, Dixie (6-3, 4-0 PacWest) is sitting comfortably at the top of the conference.
  • The Trailblazers are riding a six-game winning streak with their last game a 3-2 victory over Fresno Pacific on Saturday. Gabby Medina recorded one goal and two assists against the Sunbirds, while Bryan Baugh and Moises Medina were the other scorers.
  • Head coach Tim Busen is in his first year at the head of the Dixie men's soccer program, assisted by former player Nyle Ortiz.
  • Last season the Trailblazers overcame the Seasiders 1-0, with the lone goal coming from Jason Arollo.


  • Concordia was selected to finish ninth in the PacWest Preseason Poll, but their 3-3-2, 2-1 recorded is holding them at sixth for now.
  • The Eagles last played Cal Baptist and finished with a 1-0 win from Connor Gordon's goal.
  • When playing at their home field last year, Concordia fell 5-3 to the Seasiders.
  • This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and BYU-Hawaii in Laie.

Cal Baptist

  • With a 5-3, 1-2 PacWest record, the Lancers are ranked 12th in the conference.
  • Cal Baptist is averaging 15.4 shots per game. Aidan Apodaca and Luca Tschaidse both have 27 total shots, but Apodaca has six goals to Tschaidse's four. Keeper Noah Oyler has saved 22 shots so far.
  • Last season the Seasiders defeated the Lancers 1-0 with a goal by McRae.
