IRIVNE, Calif. – BYU-Hawaii men's golf head coach Bob Owan was named the 2017 PacWest Coach of the Year Monday in a vote by his peers.
Owan led BYU-Hawaii to its first PacWest Conference Championship at Turtle Bay Resort this year, as well as posting a season high for tournament victories with four. The Seasiders are currently competing in their second consecutive NCAA Regional under Owan's direction.
Nicolas Herrera and Jacob Godfrey were also selected as First Team All-PacWest performers. Herrera has been fantastic throughout the season averaging a 70 in his 21 rounds played this season, tied for 10th among all collegiate golfers. His lowest round of 62 is tied for the sixth lowest in all of collegiate golf this season. Herrera has totaled six eagles and 95 birdies this season.
Godfrey has also had a strong sophomore season with an average score of 72.33 in 18 rounds played this season, the 29th best in NCAA Division II. He tied Herrera for a school record shooting 10 under par in the first round of the Hawaii Challenge Golf tournament to lead BYU-Hawaii to a first place finish.
