LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – No. 14 BYU-Hawaii men's golf finished the first round one stroke ahead of Dixie State for first place at the PacWest Championship at Wigwam Golf Course.
The Seasiders finished at 5 over for the day to edge the Trailblazers for first. Cal Baptist was in third place with a round of 9 over par.
No. 24 Brent Grant led the field of 50 golfers with a 3-under 69, joining Dixie State's Dane Nelson (-1) as the only players under par. Grant started hot with birdies on two of the first four holes on his way to 1 under par on the front nine. He then made the turn with a birdy at 10 to continue his momentum on the back nine. He finished the day with five birdies and two bogies.
Dalton Stanger added a 1-over 73 to tie for fourth. Stanger had a fantastic finish on the day recording an eagle on the 14th hole and a birdie at 16. Federico Clausen also placed in the top 10 at 2 over to place eighth. Nicolas Herrera added a 5-over 77 and Inoka Kahawaii finished 9 over on the day.
BYU-Hawaii will look to build on its first round tomorrow at the Wigwam Golf Course with tee times beginning at 7 a.m. MST. Live stats will be available online.
