LAIE, Hawaii (July 29, 2014) - Men's cross country coach Kevin Schlag will begin coaching the women's cross country team in addition to retaining his duties as men's head coach.
Coach Schlag will take over for coach Norman Kaluhiokalani due to health concerns for the upcoming 2014 season.
Kaluhiokalani will still assist Coach Schlag and will be on campus for some of his faculty responsibilities.
Known to everyone as, "Coach K," at BYU-Hawaii for over 40 years, he started the cross country program in the late 1970's. In addition to cross country and serving as a faculty member, he's also been an administrator, soccer coach and state champion rugby coach within the athletic department.

"No one can ever fill Coach K's shoes," Schlag said. "He's set the foundation for cross country here so I am lucky to step in for him. This is a good recruiting class. We are excited to get out and run."
Schlag led the men's team to an NCAA West Regionals berth last year looks to continue that success with both programs now.
