LAIE, Hawaii – No. 9 BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball is headed to Nampa, Idaho, for a matchup against Central Washington of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in the first round of the NCAA Regional Tournament.
The Seasiders (21-5, 18-2 PacWest) drew the fifth seed after securing their fifth consecutive PacWest Championship. They will take on No. 4 seed Central Washington (19-7, 12-6 GNAC) on Thursday. The Wildcats finished fourth in the GNAC.
Fellow PacWest school Dixie State (20-8, 17-3 PacWest) was seeded eighth and takes on the host team, No. 1 Northwest Nazarene (24-2, 17-1 GNAC). The Red Storm finished one game behind the Seasiders in the PacWest and will have a rematch of a five-set thriller (25-19, 22-25, 19-25, 26-24, 15-11) they dropped to the Crusaders during the PacWest/GNAC Crossover Tournament.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Alaska Anchorage (21-5, 15-3 GNAC) will meet California Collegiate Athletic Association champion and No. 7 seed Sonoma State (20-6, 18-4 CCAA). The Seawolves from Alaska finished second in the GNAC with their only losses coming to champion Northwest Nazarene and Western Washington. The Seawolves of California edged out Cal State San Bernardino by a single game to secure the CCAA championship.
No. 3 Western Washington (21-6, 14-4 GNAC) takes No. 6 Cal State San Bernardino (20-6, 17-5 CCAA). The Vikings finished third in the GNAC finishing a game behind Alaska Anchorage. The Coyotes jumped Sonoma State in the final regional rankings of the year to set-up a rematch of a five-set comeback victory (26-28, 17-25, 25-19, 25-14, 15-11) over Western Washington in the Hampton Inn Wildcat Invitational.
