Seasiders head to prestigious volleyball tournament

DENVER – No. 4 BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball team heads to the mainland this week to participate in the NCAA Division II's most prestigious volleyball tournament, the 2014 Colorado Premier Challenge.

The Seasiders (2-0) started off the year sweeping Daemen and Florida Tech last week. Although starting slowly in the two matches, they gained momentum in the third set to close out the wins. Shih Ting (Stella) Chen led with way with a .508 hitting percentage, 32 kills and 24 digs. New transfer Kalistina Takau was tied with Chen for a team-high six total blocks.

BYU-Hawaii will face the rest of the top five teams in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Its first contest comes against No. 5 Central Missouri (3-1) on Friday at 9:30 a.m. MST with a nightcap against No. 3 Minnesota Duluth (4-0) at 5 p.m. MST.

The Seasiders start the final day of the tournament with a rematch of last year's national championship match against No. 1 Concordia St. Paul (4-0) at noon MST. They then wrap up the tournament against No. 2 Tampa (4-0) at 5 p.m. MST.
