Chen tabbed as PacWest Preseason Player of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. – BYU-Hawaii's Shih Ting Chen was named the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year and head coach Mona Ah hoy was tabbed as the PacWest Preseason Coach of the Year.

Chen led the PacWest and ranked second in the nation last season with 5.10 kills and 5.69 points per set. She was a Daktronics All-American selection last year and has been named the PacWest Player of the Year each of the past three seasons.

In her first season as head coach, Ah hoy led the Seasiders to their fourth-consecutive PacWest title, an NCAA West Regional title and a runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships.

Erh Fang Hsu joined Chen on the Preseason All-PacWest team.

BYU-Hawaii was picked to finish second in the conference despite gathering the most first-place votes (7). Point Loma was selected to finish first in their first season as an NCAA eligible program.

The Seasiders open the season with a home match against Daemen Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. HST at the George Q. Cannon Center.
