Stella Chen Named PacWest Female Athlete of the Year
IRVINE, Calif. (July 15, 2014) – BYU-Hawaii junior outside hitter Shih Ting (Stella) Chen has been named the 2013-14 PacWest Female Athlete of the Year by the Pacific West Conference on Tuesday.
The All-American added the honor to her lengthy list of career accomplishments as one of the most decorated volleyball players in PacWest history.
The PacWest sports information directors voted on the Female Athlete of the Year award from a pool of all players of the year from the eight PacWest women's sports.
For the third-consecutive season, Chen was named the PacWest Women's Volleyball Player of the Year and first-team all-conference. She led the PacWest and ranked second in the nation in kills (5.10) and points (5.69) per set.
Chen also ranked seventh in service aces per set (0.94) and hitting percentage (.320) in the conference. A first-team Daktronics All-American for the second-consecutive year, Chen guided the Seasiders to a 29-2 record and the national championship match.
She returns as a senior for the 2014-15 year.
