LAIE, Hawaii (Dec. 4, 2013) - The No. 4 BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball team begins the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament on Thursday vs. Alaska Anchorage at 2:30 p.m. PST in San Bernardino, Calif.
BYU-Hawaii (24-1) plays the Seawolves (21-9) in a rematch of the first contest of the Seasiders' 2013 season. BYU-Hawaii beat Alaska Anchorage 3-0.
The second-seeded Seasiders won the Pacific West Conference for a fourth consecutive year and sixth time in the last eight seasons. BYU-Hawaii won its final 17 matches in a row.
Outside hitter Shih Ting (Stella) Chen was named the PacWest Player of the Year for the third consecutive year and named to the All-PacWest First Team. Teammate Ying Chun Chen was also named to the first team while Erh Fang (Ariel) Hsu earned second team recognition.
Reigning West Region champion BYU-Hawaii is joined by fellow PacWest school Dixie State. Host school Cal State San Bernardino and CCAA members Sonoma State and UC San Diego will be at the tournament and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference is represented by Western Washington, Alaska-Anchorage and Central Washington.
The NCAA West Region champion advances to the Elite Eight, held Dec. 12-14 at U.S. Cellular Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and hosted by Upper Iowa University.
