PHOENIX (Oct. 28, 2013) – BYU-Hawaii junior Shih Ting (Stella) Chen has earned her third straight Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honor.
The conference announced the honor on Monday, Oct. 28, for matches contested Oct. 21-27.
In addition to Stella's award, teammate Ying Chun (Michelle) Chen has also earned her third consecutive Final 5 recognition.
In maybe the single most dominating individual performance of any week this season, Stella Chen led the Seasiders to a 3-0 week with a trio of 3-0 victories as they swept through Fresno Pacific, Dixie State and Academy of Art.
The Seasiders are now 18-1 overall, 13-1 and atop the PacWest standings and have won 11 consecutive matches.
Stella Chen was absolutely dominating on offense and defense. She led the PacWest in points per set for the week, averaging 6.72 points over nine sets. She totaled 60.5 points on 55 kills, five aces and a block assist.
She led the league in kills per set with a 6.11 per-set average, while her hitting percentage ranked eighth in the league at .357. She committed just nine errors while collecting her 55 kills in 129 total attempts.
Defensively, Stella Chen amassed 34 digs over the three BYU-Hawaii victories, averaging 3.78 digs per set. She finished the week tied for 11th in digs per set.
Michelle Chen helped led the PacWest in assists per set for the week, averaging 12.33 assists per set after totaling 111 in nine sets. She also averaged 0.44 aces per set for the week and contributed offensively by hitting .464 for the week – the third-best mark in the PacWest. Michelle had just two errors while recording 15 kills in 28 attempts.
