PHOENIX (Oct. 21, 2013) BYU-Hawaii junior OH Shih Ting (Stella) Chen has repeated as the Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week and teammate Ying Chun (Michelle) Chen goes back-to-back weeks with a Final 5 award.
The conference announced the honor on Monday, Oct. 21, for matches contested Oct. 14-20.
Stella Chen led the Seasiders to a 2-0 week with huge wins over Point Loma (3-1) and California Baptist (3-0) that snapped conference-winning streaks for both teams. Point Loma had been 12-0 in PacWest action, while California Baptist had won five straight matches and entered the contest 11-1 in league play.
In the two victories, Chen averaged 5.64 points per set – tops in the PacWest for the week. She totaled 39.5 points on 39 kills and one block assists.
She also led the PacWest in kills per set (5.57) for the week and was 15th in hitting percentage after producing a .300 mark by committing just nine errors in 100 chances.
Defensively, Chen ranked 11th in digs per set with a 3.86 average, finishing the week with 27 total digs in seven sets.
Michelle Chen helped lead the Seasiders to a 2-0 week with wins over Point Loma and California Baptist…ranked second in the PacWest in assists per set for the week…averaged 11.29 assists per set after totaling 79 in seven sets…also averaged 0.43 aces per set for the week.
