PHOENIX (Oct. 8, 2013) – BYU-Hawaii junior outside hitter Shih Ting Chen (Stella) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.
The conference announced the honor for matches contested Sept. 30 - Oct. 6.
Chen led the Seasiders to a 3-0 week on the mainland by averaging 5.56 points per set as BYU-Hawaii rolled to 3-0 sweeps of Notre Dame de Namur (Oct. 2), Holy Names (Oct. 4) and Dominican (Oct. 5).
Chen totaled 50 points on 46 kills, one ace, one block solo and four block assists. She ranked second in scoring for the week in the PacWest while also topping the conference in kills per set (5.11).
Chen also produced an outstanding hitting percentage by recording a .376 – fourth best in the conference for the week. She committed just eight errors in 101 attempts while recording her 46 kills.
Defensively, Chen totaled 31 digs and contributed 3.44 digs per set to help the Seasiders win nine straight sets in the Bay Area.

Ying Chun Chen (Michelle) (Jr., 6-1, S, Kaohsiung, Taiwan/Chung Shan) – BYU-Hawaii –
led Seasiders to a 3-0 week on the road…totaled 106 assists in nine sets…ranked second in assists per set (11.78) for the week in the PacWest…tied for eighth in aces per set (0.33) for the week.
Alyssa Dwyer (Jr., 6-21, MB, Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert) – Point Loma – led Sea Lions to a 2-0 week…ranked eighth in scoring in the PacWest for the week after producing 3.93 points per set…totaled 27.5 points on 23 kills, one ace and seven block assists…hit .340 for the week, good enough to rank seventh…had seven errors in 47 attempts to go along with 23 kills…averaged 3.29 kills per set – 12th for the week…also tied for eighth in blocks per set (1.00).
Rupia Inck (Jr., 6-1, OH, Uberaba, Brazil) – Fresno Pacific – led Sunbirds to a 3-0 week in conference play…topped the PacWest in hitting (.423) and scoring (5.90 points per set) for the week…totaled 59 points on 49 kills, four aces, a block solo and 10 block assists…ranked seventh in block average (1.10) for the week in the PacWest…ranked seventh in aces per set (0.40).
Rachael Smith (So., 5-11, S, Clovis, CA/Clovis) – Academy of Art – topped the PacWest in assists per set by averaging 12.56 during a 2-0 week…totaled 113 over nine sets.
Savannah Wedemeyer (So., 5-8, S, Bakersfield, CA/Bakersfield) – Point Loma – led Sea Lions to a 2-0 week by averaging 10.57 assists, 0.71 service aces and 3.86 digs per set…totaled 74 assists in seven sets…also recorded five aces and 27 digs…topped the PacWest in aces per set for the week…ranked 14th in digs per set.
