BYU-Hawaii ranked No. 5 in AVCA Preseason Top 25

LAIE, Hawaii (Aug. 14, 2013) – The 2013 BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball team earned the No. 5 spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll.

The Seasiders earned the No. 5 ranking with 986 total points from the 48 voting coaches, including two first-place votes. Fellow Pacific West Conference member Fresno Pacific earned a No. 12 ranking.

Returning are All-Americans Shih Ting Chen (Stella) and setter Ying Chun Chen (Michelle) along with fellow All-PacWest honorees middle blocker Erh Fang Hsu (Ariel) and libero Melanie Manutai.

BYU-Hawaii finished the 2012 campaign with a 25-4 record and a No. 4 national ranking. The team made a deep run in the NCAA Division II tournament to the semifinals, losing only to the eventual champs, Concordia-St. Paul.

The 2013 season begins on Thursday, Aug. 29 when the Seasiders host the University of Alaska Anchorage in the Canon Activities Center at 7:30 p.m. HT.
