LAIE, Hawaii (Sept. 4, 2013) – After starting the season with back-to-back sweeps, the No. 5 BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball team hosts three mainland teams as part of the Hawaii Invitational Tournament on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
In the first matchup, the Seasiders welcome Lewis University to the Cannon Activities Center on Thursday, followed by Fort Hayes State on Friday and Chico State on Saturday. All matches begin at 7:30 p.m. HT.
BYU-Hawaii defeated Alaska Anchorage last week in three sets and followed it up with win over Alaska Fairbanks in the same fashion to start the season 2-0.
Pacific West Conference Preseason Player of the Year Ying Chun Chen is helping the team out early, averaging 10.5 assists per set and fellow preseason All-PacWest outside hitter Shih Ting Chen leads the team with 4.33 kills per set, hitting at a .423 percent clip.
Lewis opens its season with the Thursday night match. Last season, the Flyers turned in a solid year with a 26-11 record. Fort Hayes State finished 23-14 and Chico State posted a 19-10 finish.
All three schools will play BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific over a three-day stretch on Oahu.
Due to the Polynesian Cultural Center's 50th anniversary reunion, live stats will be available on Thursday and Saturday only and there will be no streaming video for any matches Thursday through Saturday.
Students get in free with a current student ID and tickets will be available at the doors of the Cannon Activities Center.
