SURPRISE, Ariz. – No. 1 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis swept No. 34 Concordia University Irvine 5-0 Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2017 PacWest Women's Tennis Championships at the Surprise Tennis Complex.
No. 2 Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Xin (Summer) Wen opened doubles play with an 8-0 sweep of Luma Schwab and Kathrine Jensen of Concordia (11-11). Michelle Li Sha Khoo and Jeong-Min Jeon gave BYU-Hawaii (25-0) another point with an 8-2 victory on court three. No. 13 Min (Karen) Liu and Leah Heimuli survived an early back-and-forth match with Johanna Keeline and Samantha Schuster for an 8-6 win to finish the doubles sweep.
No. 11 Wen put the Seasiders within a point of the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Schwab and No. 1 Zhang finished off the match with a 6-0, 6-0 victory of her own over No. 41 Anastasiia Kuprina. The remainder of the singles matches remained unfinished with the BYU-Hawaii leading by a set in each.
The Seasiders will face No. 23 Cal State LA in the semifinals Friday at 1:30 p.m. MST at the Surprise Tennis Complex. The Golden Eagles squeaked by No. 21 Azusa Pacific 5-4 in the quarterfinals. Live stats will be available online.
