SAN DIEGO – No. 2 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis started its Southern California road trip Tuesday with a 7-2 victory over Point Loma Nazarene University at the PLNU Tennis Courts.
Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Xin (Summer) Wen teamed up for the first match of 2017 after finishing 2016 as the No. 1 rated double teams. They did not miss a beat taking an 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles over No. 23 Nikki Newell and Regina von Koch. Min (Karen) Liu paired with Leah Heimuli on court two for the Seasiders (5-0) and defeated the Sea Lions' (6-2) Michelle Torres and Shelby Groenveld 8-2. Nicole Camaratta and Ellie Gamble took the final doubles match for PLNU 8-4.
No. 2 Zhang quickly dispatched of No. 25 Newell 6-1, 6-1 on court one and Wen also took a 6-1, 6-1 on court two to put the Seasiders within a point of victory. Liu secured the victory with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court three and Heimuli won 6-0, 6-3 on court four for the Seasiders. Michelle Li Sha Khoo recorded the final point for the Seasiders with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Taylor McGowan. Torres held off Jeong Min Jeon on the final court 0-6, 7-5, 10-7 for PLNU.
BYU-Hawaii will take on Biola Wednesday at 2 p.m. PST.
