Seasiders defeat Penguins

LAIE, Hawaii – No. 2 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis swept Dominican in a 9-0 match on their home court on Saturday.

Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Xin (Summer) Wen started doubles play with an 8-0 defeat of Penguins (1-5). Alex Wartenberg and Brooke Briseno. Min (Karen) Liu and Kanela Adamson recorded another Seasider (3-0) victory in their 8-1 match over Rickimae Torres and Cory Beeby.

Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu and Jade Griffin battled back and forth with Dominican's Kelly Zwicker and Solveig Karlsen to a 5-5 tie. After Wu and Griffin took the 11th game for a 6-5 lead, they battled from behind to earn a break point to take the two game lead. Wu and Griffin took the next game as well for an 8-5 match victory.

No. 2 Zhang defeated Torres 6-1, 6-0, while No. 9 Liu played a 6-2, 6-0 match over Briseno. On the third court, Wen finished her match over Wartenberg 6-0, 6-1 and Griffin recorded a 6-0, 6-3 fourth court victory against Zwicker. Another 6-2, 6-0 win came from Adamson versus Karlsen, while Wu rounded out singles play in a 6-4, 6-2 defeat of Beeby.

BYU-Hawaii will return to the court at Hawaii Hilo on Wednesday at 2 p.m. HST.
