HONOLULU – No. 2 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis opened its season with a resounding 9-0 sweep of Chaminade on Monday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
The No. 2 ranked pairing of Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Min (Karen) Liu began with an 8-0 victory on the first doubles court over Kimberly Takara and Kauanoe Beamer of Chaminade (0-4). Jeong-Min Jeon and Kanela Adamson also won in straight sets (8-0) over the Silverswords' Jackie McGreal and Kim Spring. Jade Griffin and Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu earned an 8-1 victory for the Seasiders (1-0) over Michelle Bucher and Emma Haurillon.
In singles No. 2 Zhang and No. 9 Liu took the top two singles courts with 6-0, 6-0 victories over their Chaminade opponents. Jeon was victorious (6-2, 6-0) over Beamer on the third singles court. Griffin, Wu and Adamson each added straight set sweeps for the Seasiders.
BYU-Hawaii will be back in action Friday for a matchup with Hawaii Hilo at 2 p.m. HST in Laie, Hawaii.
