SURPRISE, Ariz. – No. 3 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis fell 5-0 to No. 2 Barry in the semifinals of the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championships at the Surprise Racquet and Tennis Complex.
The Seasiders' (32-2) Kanela Anderson and Jade Griffin fell 8-2 to the Bucs' (24-1) Elisabeth Abanda and Kimmy Twelker in the first doubles match of the day. Rainy weather caused a four-hour interruption before the other two matches could finish. BYU-Hawaii's No. 2 ranked Min (Karen) Liu and Nannan (Dallas) Zhang were down 5-4 prior to the delay, and came back strong, taking the lead with two straight wins to make the match 6-5. Barry's No. 3 ranked Sonja Larsen and Ana Pain responded by winning the next three games to take the match 8-6. The Seasiders' No. 22 Jin Jin (Leah) Han and Marietta Tuionetoa battled with the Bucs' No. 4 Linda Fritschken and Emma Onila, but fell 10-8 in the tiebreaker.
Rain again halted play until Saturday morning after the beginning of the first singles match. Barry's Pain grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jeong-Min Jeon in No. 5 singles, while Kimmy Twelker defeated BYU-Hawaii's Adamson 6-0, 6-0 on the sixth court.
