HONOLULU – No. 3 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis topped No. 7 Hawaii Pacific University in a 5-1 match on Friday afternoon at Ala Moana Park.
The only win of the day for the Sharks (18-5) came from No. 11 doubles partners Kristyna Hancarova and Nicole Hoynaski in a 9-8 match over No. 1 Min (Karen) Liu and Nannan (Dallas) Zhang. The No. 21 pairing of Marietta Tuionetoa and Jin Jin (Leah) Han played an 8-3 match over Lorena Gheorghe and Lea Kruse-Utermann. Jade Griffin and Kanela Adamson's 8-3 win over Vivian Hansen and Sofia Tavitian put the Seasiders (27-1) ahead.
No. 1 Zhang defeated No. 16 Hancarova in a 6-3, 6-0 singles competition. A 6-2, 6-1 victory was won by No. 4 Liu against Hoynaski. Han's 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Tavitian secured the win for BYU-Hawaii and all other matches were left unfinished.
BYU-Hawaii will head back to the mainland next week for the PacWest Tennis Championships in Surprise, Arizona, April 16-18. BYU-Hawaii will enter as the No. 1 seed.
