PENSACOLA, Fla. – Marietta Tuionetoa and Nannan (Dallas) Zhang each grabbed two victories to help No. 3 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis overcome No. 7 West Florida 6-3 on Friday at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
No. 1 doubles pairing of Zhang and Min (Karen) Liu pulled out a close 9-8 victory over No. 16 Monika Kochanova and Laure-Eline Faure of West Florida (13-3) on the first doubles court. Newly ranked No. 21 pairing Tuionetoa and Jin Jin (Leah) Han of BYU-Hawaii (23-1) dispatched Nina Bubelova and Fernanda Amaral 8-6 on the second court. Kat Dikosavljevic and Lisa May recorded the lone victory for the Argonauts in doubles with a 9-7 win over the Seasiders' Kanela Adamson and Jade Griffin.
In singles play, No. 1 Zhang defeated Faure 6-2, 6-4 on the first court. No. 18 Kochanova evened the score with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over BYU-Hawaii's No. 4 Liu. No. 9 Tuionetoa came from behind to take a 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 victory over Dikosavljevic.
The last victory for the Argonauts came on the fourth singles court where Bubelova defeated Griffin 6-3, 6-1. The Seasiders grabbed the last two singles matches, beginning with a hard fought 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory by Jeong-Min Jeon. Han wrapped up singles play with a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0(3) victory on the final court.
BYU-Hawaii will wrap up its East Coast swing with a doubleheader with Delta State and Christian Brothers beginning at 9 a.m. EDT in Pensacola, Florida.
