KONA, Hawaii – No. 4 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis took home two 9-0 sweeps over rivals Chaminade and University of Hawaii at Hilo on Valentine's Day at the Holua Tennis Center.
Kanela Adamson and Jeong-Min Jeon each played two singles matches and were paired together for another two doubles matches recording straight-set sweeps in all six contests. The Seasiders' Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu and Jade Griffin also played in two singles matches as well as two doubles matches. Wu "double-bageled" Chaminade's Roni Hewett, while recording a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Hilo's Shanise Ka'aikala.
Griffin's won her first singles match after Chaminade's Kimberly Takara retired early. She then defeated the Vulcan's Rachel Sugiyama 6-1, 6-2 in her second singles match. Wu and Griffin combined for two 8-1 victories in their doubles matches.
Jin Jin (Leah) Han recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Chaminade's Michelle Bucher, and a 6-0, 6-1 win over Hilo's Chanelle Piliwale-Wilson. Han then combined with Marietta Tuionetoa for an 8-0 doubles victory over the Silverswords pairing of Melanie Schumilas and Roni Hewett.
Nationally ranked No. 6 Min (Karen) Liu recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Chaminade's Schumilas, while No. 2 Nannan (Dallas) Zhang defeated Hilo's Trixie Croad 6-1, 6-0. The No. 3 pairing of Liu and Zhang defeated Croad and Rachel Sugiyama 8-0 in their lone doubles match of the day.
The Seasiders travel next week for a pair of matches against Biola and San Diego Christian on Saturday beginning at noon PST in La Mirada, California.
