Lady Seasiders crush Tritons in ranked matchup

HOLUA, Hawaii – No. 4 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis triumphed 8-1 in a top-20 battle with No. 19 UC San Diego on Firday at the Holua Tennis Center.

Nationally ranked No. 4 Nannan (Dallas) Zhang was handed a 7-6 (5), 6-7 (0), 1-0 (6) loss in a tight battle with the Tritons' No. 22 Kyra Scott. UC San Diego was no match for BYU-Hawaii in the remainder of the singles matches.

No. 6 Min (Karen) Liu quickly defeated UC San Diego's Jasmine Hosseini 6-1, 6-0 in the second singles match, while No. 10 Marietta Tuionetoa dispatched of Britta Mosser 6-3, 6-2. Jin Jin (Leah) Han kept the wins rolling for BYU-Hawaii, taking home a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Nava Nowamooz.

In the fifth singles match, Jade Griffin won 6-1, 6-3 over Nousha Nowamooz. Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu took home the final victory in singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over UC San Diego's Shannon Theisen.

In doubles, the No. 3 nationally ranked pairing of Zhang and Liu defeated No. 14 Scott and Mosser 8-6. Tuionetoa and Han added an 8-3 victory for the Seasiders and Jeong-Min Jeon and Kanela Adamson took home an 8-4 victory.

The Lady Seasiders will wrap up play on the big Island with a doubleheader Saturday beginning with Chaminade at 9 a.m. HST followed by another match against host Hilo at the Holua Tennis Center.
