HOLUA, Hawaii – No. 4 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis triumphed 9-0 over No. 23 Sonoma State in straight sets on Thursday afternoon at the Holua Tennis Center.
The match started with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph by No. 2 Nannan (Dallas) Zhang over Leire Martinez. No. 6 Min (Karen) Liu defeated Kaitlyn Haithcock in a 6-3, 6-0 match. A 6-1, 6-3 victory came from No. 10 Marietta Tuionetoa versus Jordyn Kearney.
After a close first set, Jade Griffin overcame Jacquelyn Ward in a 7-5, 6-0 match. Kanela Adamson won a 6-1, 6-0 match over Karlee Budge, while Chiung-En (JoJo) Wu closed out singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Julie Rea.
Nationally ranked No. 3 partners Liu and Zhang crushed the Seawolves in an 8-1 match. The Seasiders continued their reign with an 8-4 win by Tuionetoa and Jin Jin (Leah) Han. Adamson and Jeong-Min Jeon ended the day with an 8-2 triumph.
BYU-Hawaii will face No. 19 UC San Diego at the Holua Tennis Center on Friday at 12 p.m. HST.
