SUMTER, S.C. – No. 2 Nannan (Dallas) Zhang was unable to top No. 1 Valentine Confalonieri of Lynn University in the Division II women's singles final of the 2014 USTA/ITA National Small College Championships at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
"It was a really good match," BYU-Hawaii head coach Dave Porter said. "I think Dallas was good enough to win and she played well. [Confalonieri] is really good player. She won this tournament last year and came in ranked first."
Zhang lost a close first set 6-4, but she rebounded well to take the second set 6-3 and send it to a tiebreaker set. Confalonieri won the third and final set 6-2 to move on to the Super Bowl stage of the tournament with a chance to defend her championship.
