Women's tennis sweeps All-PacWest awards

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (May 22, 2014) – Eight-time PacWest women's tennis champion BYU-Hawaii earned six All-PacWest honors and swept the All-PacWest individual awards, as the teams were announced by the league office on Thursday.

Nannan (Dallas) Zhang was named PacWest Player and Newcomer of the Year. A first-team All-PacWest selection, Zhang was a perfect 10-0 in singles and 15-1 in doubles on the season. She was the top-ranked player in singles in the West Region and ranked fourth in the nation.

Min (Karen) Liu was named PacWest Freshman of the Year. Also a first-team All-PacWest selection, Liu was 13-1 in singles play, with her only loss coming at the NCAA Championship. She was right behind Zhang in the ITA rankings, at No. 2 in the region and No. 5 in the nation.

Zhang and Liu were also a first-team All-PacWest doubles tandem, posting a 13-1 record on the season to rank first and second in the nation and region, respectively.

Dave Porter was named the PacWest Coach of the Year for the seventh-consecutive time. He guided the Seasiders to a 26-1 record, their 15th season with one loss or less since becoming Division II in 1999. BYUH was unbeaten during the regular season and won their eighth-straight PacWest championship.

In addition to the individual awards, Marietta Tuionetoa and Marika Kobayashi were both named to the All-PacWest Second Team.
