Seasiders move on to PacWest Tennis Championship match

SURPRISE, Ariz. (April 18, 2014) - The No. 3 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team beat No. 14 Academy of Art 5-2 in the semifinals of the Pacific West Conference Tennis Championships.

The top seeded Seasiders (25-0) will play No. 2 seed Hawaii Pacific on Saturday morning.

BYU-Hawaii got off to a good start with first doubles going to Nannan (Dallas) Zhang and Min (Karen) Liu with a 8-1 victory.

Second and third doubles didn't go as smoothly however, with both Seasider pairs coming up short. Marika Kobayashi and Marietta Tuionetoa lost 8-4 and Sasha Ulbrichtova and Jin Jin (Leah) Han fell 8-2 in the three spot.

Singles play got the Seasiders going again. Kobayashi got a 6-1, 6-0 win in third singles to even the match score 2-2.

Tuionetoa won 6-3, 6-1 in fourth singles and Liu picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win to make it 4-2.

Han clinched the win with hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 win in the No. 6 position.

The to singles match with Zhang went unfinished after a set going to her and Academy of Art's Nina Gajdosikova while fifth singles and Ulbrichtova also didn't finish with the win already secured.
