No. 3 BYU-Hawaii topples No. 35 Sonoma State 9-0

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. (April 2, 2014) - The No. 3 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team continued its winning ways with a 9-0 win over No. 35 Sonoma State, snapping a nine-match winning streak for the Seawolves.

The visiting Seasiders (18-0) took all three doubles matches, none of them too close with 8-2, 8-2 and 8-0 wins for each pairing. Min (Karen) Liu and Nannan Zhang, Marietta Tuionetoa and Marika Kobayashi, Jin Jin (Leah) Han and Sasha Ulbrichtova swept the doubles.

The excitement came in the No. 1 singles match. No. 18 Zhang edged out No. 8 Sara Celma in a thriller 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (14).

No. 2 singles was a good one as well with Liu beating out Leire Martinez 6-3, 6-4.

In singles, the No. 3, 4, 5, 6 matches were similar, going to the Seasiders in straight sets and no set closer than 6-2. Tuionetoa, Han, Jeong-Min Jeon and Jade Griffin all picked up wins.

BYU-Hawaii will be at Cal State Stanislaus tomorrow for another road match.
