Seasiders down Hilo for second straight day

HILO, Hawaii (Feb. 14, 2014) - For the second straight day the No. 2 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team held UH-Hilo without a point in a shortened 5-0 match on Friday.

BYU-Hawaii took the all three doubles points to make it tough on the Vulcans for a comeback.

No. 1 positioned Marika Kobayashi and Kanela Adamson beat Morissa Kahakui and Rachel Sujiyama 8-5.

Sasha Ulbrichtova and Jade Griffin won in No. 2 doubles 8-1 and in No. 3 doubles Jeong-Min Jeon and Jin Jin (Leah) Han won 8-0.

The Seasiders picked up two singles points to seal the match with Marietta Tuionetoa winning in No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 and Ulbrichtova winning in the third position 6-0, 6-2.

BYU-Hawaii will challenge No. 17 UC San Diego tomorrow on the big island.

THURSDAY
HILO, Hawaii (Feb. 13, 2014) - The No. 2 BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team cruised past the University of Hawaii at Hilo 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.

BYU-Hawaii improved to 4-0 early in the season with a dominating performance over the Vulcans.

In doubles, each pair for the Seasiders took away 8-0 wins.

Marietta Tuinetoa and Nannan Zhang, Min (Karen) Liu and Kanela Adamson, and Marika Kobayashi and Sasha Ulbrichtova all were victorious in their first, second and third doubles positions.

In first singles, Liu beat Trixie Croad 6-1, 6-0 and Kobayashi downed Chelsea Sato 6-2, 6-1 in the closest matchup of the day at the No. 2 position.

At the No. 3 position, Adamson won 6-1, 6-1 and Jade Griffin was a winner 6-1, 6-0 over Morissa Kahakui at the fourth spot.

Jeong-Jin Jeon and Jin Jin (Leah) Han both won their singles in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions with scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.

The team returns to the court tomorrow against Hilo.
