BYU-Hawaii tops CMS with 8-1 victory

LAIE, Hawaii (Jan. 17, 2014) - The No. 2 ranked BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team dominated the No. 4 ranked Division III power Claremont-Mudds-Scripps for its second win of the season on Friday.

The Seasiders (2-0) swept the doubles to take a commanding three-point lead with the No. 3 nationally ranked doubles team of Marietta Tuionetoa and Marika Kobayashi leading the way in first doubles with an 8-4 win. 

Newcomers Jeong-Min Jeon and Kanela Adamson dug a hole for themselves and were and were down 3-6 before coming back and winning a 9-7 thriller. 

Senior Sasha Ulbrichtova and partner Jade Griffin crushed their CMS opponents 8-0 to complete the sweep.

In singles action, No. 26 Tuionetoa downed Caroline Ward 6-4, 6-4 and No. 17 Kobayashi beat Katie Kousman by the same 6-4, 6-4 score.

Sarah Kukino of CMS 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 dropped Jeong-Min Jeon but Kanela Adamson won 6-2, 6-0 over Crystal Lim and Ulbrichtova defeated Erin Coughlan 6-1, 6-1. 

Jade Griffin rounded out the singles matches with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Victoria Santoro. 

BYU-Hawaii will be off until Feb. 13 when they visit the Hilo Vulcans.
