Seasiders beat Whitman 9-0

LAIE, Hawaii (Jan. 15, 2014) - The BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team started out 2014 with a 9-0 win over Whitman on Wednesday afternoon in Laie.

The Seasiders swept their first match of the year, taking every point available in singles and doubles.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Marika Kobayashi and Marietta Tuionetoa defeated Courtney Lawless and Morgan Lawless 8-4.

Also in doubles, Sasha Ulbrichtova and Jade Griffin defeated Jenna Dobin and Maddy Webster 8-2 from the No. 3 spot while Jeong-Min Jeon and Kanela Adamson beat Erin Bell and Katrina Allick 8-3 in the No. 2 position.

No. 17 Kobayashi won the No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-2 over No. 26 Courtney Lawless. No. 26 Tuionetoa also won her individual match in the No. 2 slot, 6-1, 6-1 over Morgan Lawless.

The rest of the Seasiders were victorious in their singles matches. Jeong-Min Jeon (6-1, 6-1), Adamson (6-2, 6-2), Ulbrichtova (6-1, 6-0) and Griffin (6-3, 6-1) all came out on top in the No. 3-6 positions.

BYU-Hawaii will host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday at 2 p.m. in Laie.
