Sealions top Seasiders

LAIE, Hawaii – BYU-Hawaii women's soccer fell 2-0 to Point Loma Saturday afternoon at the BYU-Hawaii soccer field.

Sydney Eddy and Kristine Reynolds Behrens each had a shot on goal for BYU-Hawaii (5-7-2, 4-5-1 PacWest). Seasider goalie Jaylie Jensen (3-5-1) recorded three saves.

Abbey Teagle and Kaiti Freeberg both scored a goal for Point Loma (9-2-3, 7-1-1 PacWest) while keeper Ariel Oriarte (8-2-3) stopped both of BYU-Hawaii's shots on goal.

Mackenzie Bean took the first shot of the game six minutes in but it sailed wide to the left of the frame. Cori Deason looked to open the scoring for Point Loma in the 11th minute, but her shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out.

In the 30th minute, Abby Teagle sent a pass to Kaiti Freeberg who put the ball in the back of the net to score for the Sea Lions, giving them the 1-0 advantage.

Two minutes later, the Seasiders had back-to-back shots from Sydney Richards and Hailey Jensen but both were blocked.

Point Loma's Teagle beat Seasider keeper Jaylie Jensen one on one to score the Sea Lions' second goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the half to give Point Loma the 2-0 lead at the break.

Jaylie Jensen saved a shot by Keagan Bolibol in the 48th minute before a shot from Freeberg bounced off the post.

BYU-Hawaii had a last chance to score in the 88th minute when Behrens took a shot on goal that Oriarte secured to preserve the shutout.
