HONOLULU – Jaylie Jensen earned her second consecutive shutout to lead BYU-Hawaii's women's soccer to a 3-0 win over Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday at the Waipio Soccer Complex.
Whitley Sargent scored two goals and Mackenzie Moore added one, their first goals of the season for the Seasiders (4-4-1, 3-2-0 PacWest). Moore also added an assist to her total. Jensen (2-2) recorded five saves in the match.
BYU-Hawaii were able to get off 16 shots, nine on goal, while holding the Sharks (2-6-1, 2-2 PacWest) to nine shots with five on goal.
A shot by Kai Hasegawa got the Hawaii Pacific off to a fast start in the seventh minute, but Jensen denied it for her first save of the day. The Seasiders were able to retaliate with a shot from defender Caitlin Wadley in the 13th minute, but a save by the Shark's Alannah John (1-3) kept the game scoreless.
Jensen was able to save one more shot before the Seasiders applied offensive pressure with a shot on goal from Eddy in the 27th minute was saved by the Shark back line.
A minute later Kala Brundige put a corner into the box and Moore flicked it on to Sargent who kicked it into the back of the net and gave BYU-Hawaii the 1-0 advantage going into the half.
Hawaii Pacific earned three corner kicks within the first ten minutes of the second half, but the Seasders were able to shut down the offensive attack and retaliate with two shots of their own, one which went high and one that was saved by the Hawaii Pacific's keeper.
After a shot by Rachel Orchard that forced a save from Hawaii Pacific, Mackenzie Moore found herself with the ball from 20 yards out and took the shot that gave BYU-Hawaii the 2-0 advantage in the 66th minute.
The Sharks had an opportunity to get on the board in the 78th minute with a header from Montana Logue and in the 80th minute with a shot from Sara Romo, but Jensen was there to make the stop once again.
Sargent got taken down inside the box to earn a penalty kick in the 88th minute and sent it in to complete her brace and end the game 3-0.
