LAIE, Hawaii – BYU-Hawaii women's soccer was unable to fight back against Westminster College in a 1-0 loss on Saturday at the BYU-Hawaii soccer field.
BYU-Hawaii outshot Westminster (2-0) 8-5, but the Griffins were able to save all four of the Seasiders shots.
The game started slow as Smith and Lewis attempted from just outside the box, but they were unable shots that couldn't make it in the netting.
Westminster's Rylei North took possession of a loose ball in the box and found the back of an empty net to give Westminster the 1-0 lead in the 22nd. Smith attempted to retaliate in the 29th minute, but the Griffins' Abi Yanke saved her shot.
In the first minutes of the second half, Orchard took two shots that went wide. North closed in, trying to get another Westminster goal, but the Seasiders' keeper Daryl Kaufusi was able to get her hands on it.
Orchard went in to tie the game on a late breakaway, but Yanke caught her ball in the 77th minute. Five minutes later Orchard shot another ball into the keeper's hands. Reynolds put a shot on goal in the 87th minute, but Yanke came up with another save to secure the win for her team.
The Seasiders will head to Hawaii Pacific for their next game on Sept. 17 at 12:30 p.m. HST. Live stats will be available online.
