HONOLULU - McKenzie Evans scored her fifth goal of the year and Kate Orchard scored her first as BYU-Hawaii women's soccer defeated Chaminade 2-0 in the last game of the season at St. Louis Field on Saturday.
Orchard beat the keeper from the spot in the 62nd minute to give the Seasiders (4-13, 3-9 PacWest) the 1-0 lead. Three minutes later Evans sent the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0 in favor of BYU-Hawaii.
The first half started slow until Chaminade's (3-11-1, 3-8-1 PacWest) Nicole Nishiki put a shot on goal in the eighth minute, but Daniela Chacon made the save for the Seasiders. Chacon stopped another shot by Nishiki in the 17th minute.
BYU-Hawaii's defense blocked a shot by the Silverswords and another shot from Chaminade sailed over the goal in the 18th minute.
Chacon kept up her strong play in net when she prevented another shot by Nishiki from reaching the back netting in the 28th minute.
The Seasiders found a chance to start the scoring in the 35th minute when Orchard took a shot, but it was blocked by the back line of the Silverswords.
Evans found the ball in the 51st minute for a promising chance, but her shot was blocked. She followed up with a minute later that the Silverswords' keeper got her hands on. Chaminade saved another one of Evans' shots on goal in the 59th minute, maintaining the scoreless game.
After the two goals from the Seasiders, the Silverswords attempted to close the gap with another shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but Chacon wouldn't let it past her.
In the 78th minute, Sarah Bodily tried to increase the Seasiders lead, but Chaminade's keeper made the save.
