Seasiders fall to Vulcans in final home match

LAIE, Hawaii - BYU-Hawaii women's soccer was unable to overcome University of Hawai'i at Hilo in a 2-1 loss at the BYU-Hawaii soccer field on Saturday.

After Daniela Chacon blocked a shot by Kristine Pasek, Kahri Golden kicked the ball past the keeper to give the Vulcans (6-4-6, 3-3-4 PacWest) the 2-1 victory in the 86th minute.

The Seasiders (3-13-0, 2-9-0 PacWest) started strong with a goal by Ansley Warner in the 9th minute after McKenzie Evans stole the ball and placed a nice through ball into the box for the assist.

A corner kick found Hilo's Alexandra Marin a minute later and she used her body to put it in the back of the net and tie BYU-Hawaii.

In the 22nd minute Hilo looked to have its second goal, but the ball hit the crossbar to preserve the tie.

Looking to attack just one minute later, Evans fired a ball hard at the keeper, but she was able to push the ball toward the end line and a follow-up shot by Evans went wide.

The second half started with 3 shots by BYU-Hawaii, but none found the netting.

Warner went for her second goal of the game with a header shot that was blocked in the 64th minute. Rebekah McCarthy's shot one minute later was also saved by the Vulcans' goalkeeper.

In an attempt to score in the 71st minute, a ball bounced around inside the box, but the Seasiders could not get it through to the goal.
