PHOENIX (Nov. 12, 2013) – BYU-Hawaii senior goalie Megan McCain has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Defender of the Week.
The conference announced the honor on Nov. 12 for games played Nov. 4-10.
The Defender of the Week honor is awarded each week to a back or goalkeeper for outstanding defensive play.
McCain earned a pair of 1-0 shutouts by stopping all 14 shots on goal she faced during 180:00 of action. She recorded a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage (1.000) while posting a 2-0-0 record.
In a 1-0 win vs. Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 6, McCain repelled three shots on goal to secure the 1-0 shutout at home. On Nov. 9, she stopped all 11 shots on goal in a 1-0 win at Hawai'i Hilo.
Senior Tasha Campbell was also named a Final 5 award winner, given to five of the best individual performances during the week. She scored the game-winning goal at 87:00 in 1-0 victory over Hawai'i Pacific on Nov. 6.
Campbell also set up game-winning goal on a corner kick at 59:09 in a 1-0 victory at Hawai'i Hilo on Nov. 9. She finished week with a goal, an assist and three points.
The Seasiders finished third in the PacWest and won their final eight matches in a row with McCain's help, but was not selected to postseason play.
