Defense stout as Seasiders win eighth in a row

HILO, Hawaii (Nov. 9, 2013) – Makelle Yates scored with a header for a 1-0 victory to beat the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, BYU-Hawaii moves to 9-4-2 and wins its eighth consecutive match. The Seasiders improve to 8-3-1 in Pacific West Conference play.

Yates found the back of the net off of a corner kick from Tasha Campbell in the 59th minute.

BYU-Hawaii took just five shots, including four on goal on the day, but it was enough to beat the No. 8 team in the region.

Megan McCain and the Seasider defense came up big, posting their seventh consecutive shutout. McCain had 11 saves to keep the aggressive Vulcans off the board.

The team will now await selections for the postseason next week.
