LAIE, Hawaii (Oct. 12, 2013) – The BYU-Hawaii women's soccer team defeated Dominican 2-1 in a tough and muddy battle on Saturday afternoon.
Two second-half goals lifted the Seasiders (2-4-2, 1-3-1) over Dominican (5-5-2, 2-3-1). BYU-Hawaii unloaded with 13 shots, including four on goal and held the Penguins to just six shots in the game.
The game stayed about even for most of the first half with both teams exchanging possessions back and forth. Then in the 22nd minute Dominican scored off of a deflected shot putting them ahead 1-0.
The Seasiders tried to equalize before half but were unsuccessful, sending both teams into the break with Dominican on top 1-0.
BYU-Hawaii started things off at a quick pace looking for the equalizing opportunity when in the 51st minute Kim Micheletti put one in the back of the net tying the game 1-1.
The Seasiders kept the pressure on Dominican after that taking several shots and soon after seeing them pay off as McKenzie Evans put BYU-Hawaii ahead 2-1 in the 82nd minute.
The Seasiders look for more conference wins as they take on Notre Dame de Namur, Thursday at 12:30 p.m. in Laie.
