Successful scrimmage preps for regular season

LAIE, Hawaii (Aug. 24, 2013) – The BYU-Hawaii women's soccer team got its first round of action on Saturday morning with a scrimmage match. The back-forth-game ended in regulation with no score and moved right into penalty kicks with one squad of Seasiders edging out a 4-3 win.

"I think today was a really good day for us," head coach Alex Ruegner said. "We had a lot of opportunities to score goals but our goalkeepers are just so good. It's a good sign of where we are at."

Both teams went up and down the field, seeing several shots open up but terrific keeper play from both Megan McCain and Makenzie Pineda kept both teams off the scoreboard until penalty kicks.

The scrimmage served as a good barometer for where the team is positioned heading into the season. BYU-Hawaii was picked to finish fourth in the Pacific West Conference and is out to prove they can top that mark.

The regular season begins on Saturday, Aug. 31 vs. Chaminade at 12:30 p.m. on the soccer field.
