HILO, Hawaii (Sept. 12, 2013) – In a rematch of last week's action, the BYU-Hawaii women's soccer team took home a 0-0 draw with the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Thursday.
The Seasiders (0-1-1) battled the Vulcans (2-0-1) in another well defended contest. Last week an early goal put BYU-Hawaii in a hole but the defense wouldn't let it happen this week as the Seasiders managed to hold Hilo to just three shots, just one of them on goal.
BYU-Hawaii got two shots off in the first half, both on goal but saves by the keeper kept it a scoreless half. Makenzie Kirts took the first shot and Makelle Yates took a penalty kick for the Seasiders but neither were able to get past the goalie.
In the second half, McKenzie Evans and Brittany Dyer had opportunities but went wide on their shots, sending BYU-Hawaii into overtime with the Vulcans.
Hilo was on the offensive in the first overtime but keeper Megan McCain made a save in the 96th minute to keep the Vulcans off the board and give BYU-Hawaii another chance in a second overtime.
Despite the extra time, neither team could find the back of the net and settled for 0-0 draw after two overtime periods.
Up next, the team will visit Hawaii Pacific on Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m.
